What made me start crafting weathered steel art in the heart of Australia? I loved the process - designing, cutting, refining - but the real thrill was seeing these pieces out in the wild. A kangaroo silhouette catching the morning light. A rusted sunburst glowing on a garden wall. Watching people pause and smile... that's what got me hooked.

Soon, folks wanted their own. A weekend passion became a full-time pursuit. Today, Sunburnt Steel brings handcrafted metal art to homes, gardens, and public spaces across the country - each piece shaped by sun, weather, and story.

Made with Care

Made Locally

Every piece is designed and crafted in our Australian workshop. No overseas factories, no mass production - just Dan, his tools, and a lot of sparks.

Made to Last

Designed and fabricated for Australian conditions, Sunburnt Steel products use quality steel, precision cutting, and proven fabrication methods to deliver durability, corrosion resistance, and long service life.

Made for Outdoors

Designed for gardens, fences, and facades. The natural rust patina isn't a flaw - it's the finish. Each piece develops its own character over time.

Frequently asked questions

Good questions, straight answers

What material do you use?

Depends on the piece. We work with Corten steel (the classic rust finish that weathers beautifully), mild steel (usually powder-coated or painted for a cleaner look), and stainless steel for pieces that need to stay shiny. Each product page tells you what it's made from.

Can I order a custom design?

Absolutely. House numbers, family names, business signs, pet memorials, or something completely original - we do it all. Send us your idea through the Contact page and we'll get back to you with a quote.

How long does delivery take?

Most in-stock pieces ship within 3–5 business days. Custom orders take 2–4 weeks depending on complexity. You'll get tracking as soon as it's on its way.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Close, but not identical. Each piece is hand-cut and the rust patina develops naturally - so there'll be subtle variations. That's part of the handmade appeal.

Can I hang these pieces indoors?

Yes, but keep in mind that raw Corten can leave rust residue. If you're going indoors, we'd recommend a sealed or painted finish. Just ask and we can sort it.

What if something arrives damaged?

Get in touch with photos within 7 days and we'll sort it - replacement or refund, your call.

How much does shipping cost?

It depends on the size of the piece and where you are. Shipping's calculated at checkout. Smaller items go Australia Post; bigger pieces go via freight carrier.

Do you ship internationally?

Not at the moment - Australia only. If you're overseas and desperate, get in touch and we'll see what we can do.
